Goddess Parvati, who is also known as Gauri, wanted a child. One day, while Lord Shiva was away, she created a beautiful boy out of sandalwood paste and breathed life into him. She named him Ganesha.

When Lord Shiva returned home and found a stranger standing guard, he became angry and ordered his followers to attack the boy. Ganesha fought bravely, but was eventually beheaded by Lord Shiva’s trident.

When Parvati saw what had happened, she was devastated and demanded that Ganesha be brought back to life. Lord Shiva ordered his followers to bring the head of the first living being they found. They returned with the head of an elephant, which Lord Shiva then attached to Ganesha’s body and brought him back to life.

From that day on, Lord Ganesha became known as the God of wisdom, knowledge, and new beginnings, and is worshipped by millions of Hindus around the world.
