What are Jyotirlinga

What are Jyotirlinga – Jyotirlinga are 12 special shrines in Hinduism dedicated to Lord Shiva, which are believed to be the most sacred and powerful places of worship for devotees. The word Jyotirlinga means “lingam of light” or “pillar of light”, which symbolizes the divine manifestation of Lord Shiva as a formless column of fire or light.
The 12 Jyotirlinga are:
Somnath Temple – located in Saurashtra, Gujarat
Mallikarjuna Temple – located in Srisailam, Andhra Pradesh
Mahakaleshwar Temple – located in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh
Omkareshwar Temple – located in Shivpuri, Madhya Pradesh
Kedarnath Temple – located in Kedarnath, Uttarakhand
Bhimashankar Temple – located in Pune, Maharashtra
Kashi Vishwanath Temple – located in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh
Trimbakeshwar Temple – located in Nashik, Maharashtra
Vaijanath Temple – located in Parali, Maharashtra
Nageshwar (Nagnath) Temple – located in Aundha, Maharashtra
Rameshwaram Temple – located in Rameshwaram, Tamil Nadu
Grishneshwar Temple – located in Aurangabad, Maharashtra
It is believed that visiting these Jyotirlinga shrines and offering prayers to Lord Shiva brings blessings and fulfill devotees’ wishes.
