According to legend, there was a boy named Ballala who lived in Pali village. He was a great devotee of Lord Ganesha and would often spend hours meditating and praying to him. However, the other villagers did not approve of his devotion and mocked him for worshipping an elephant-headed god.
One day, during the festival of Ganesh Chaturthi, Ballala wanted to participate in the celebrations but was not allowed to enter the temple where the idol of Lord Ganesha was kept. Feeling dejected, Ballala sat outside the temple and began to cry. Lord Ganesha, moved by his devotion, appeared before him in the form of a young boy and granted him a boon.
Ballala asked that Lord Ganesha stay with him and make Pali village his permanent abode. Lord Ganesha agreed and transformed himself into a stone idol, which is now worshipped as Ballaleshwar.
The name Ballaleshwar means “the lord who is worshipped by Ballala.” The temple is located on a hill and is surrounded by lush greenery, adding to its serene and peaceful atmosphere.
