Why Shree Ganesha likes Durva – In Hinduism, Lord Ganesha is considered the god of wisdom, knowledge, and new beginnings. Durva, also known as Bermuda grass, is considered as a sacred plant in Hinduism and is associated with Lord Ganesha.
There are several mythological stories that explain why Ganesha likes Durva. One popular legend tells that during a fierce battle, Ganesha was attacked by demons, and he started bleeding. To stop the bleeding, he applied Durva grass to his wounds, which healed him instantly. From that day on, it is believed that Ganesha developed a liking for Durva and became fond of it.
In another story, it is said that when Ganesha was once eating his favorite sweets, a piece of the sweet fell on the ground. A passing cow happened to eat it and started to choke. Ganesha immediately came to the rescue and put a Durva leaf in the cow’s mouth. The cow was instantly relieved and could breathe easily. Since then, Durva has been considered a symbol of auspiciousness and a sign of good luck.
Once, while Lord Ganesha was meditating, a snake appeared and frightened him. His devotee, a mouse, saw this and rushed to help him. The mouse chased the snake away, and Ganesha was relieved. As a reward, Lord Ganesha plucked a few blades of Durva grass and gave them to the mouse as a token of his gratitude.
The mouse, who was very fond of Lord Ganesha, started to nibble on the Durva blades. Seeing this, Lord Ganesha was pleased and declared that from that day forward, Durva grass would be considered a symbol of good luck and an auspicious offering to him during Poojas.
In conclusion, the association between Ganesha and Durva has been established through various mythological stories and is considered a significant aspect of Hindu culture and tradition.
